Getting Started with Tajweed: The Basics of Quran Reading:

If you want to learn how to read the Quran, you’re going to need to start with Online Shia Quran Academy some basics. The traditional method of learning how to read the Quran uses various symbols and marks called tajweed to make sure your recitation of the Quran sounds just as beautiful as it reads on the page. Daal (Ayn):

The Arabic alphabet is made up of 28 letters. These letters are broken down into 3 sections. The short vowels, the long vowels and the hamzah (which is the letter which makes your voice drop). Below you will find a table to help you identify these letters in both Romanized English and Arabic script. Notice how most of the letters sound different when they are connected or unattached from another letter.
In addition to understanding the difference between ‘connected’ and ‘unconnected’ letters we also need to understand how each of these letters should be pronounced when we read them. To do this we have vowel points that tell us where a letter should be emphasized. The six vowel points used in Arabic are as follows: fatha, kasra, damma, sukoon, shadda, zerza. Notice how each point has its own meaning or purpose depending on where it is applied or what vowel it corresponds with.

Waw (Vav):

Quranic Arabic is written in a script that has no vowels. It consists primarily of consonants as well as some diacritic marks which help to define the pronunciation. There are four basic systems for teaching and reading Quranic Arabic, each with its own method for determining how words are pronounced. Of these four systems, the most popular is the ‘Waw-Vav’ system used in many Muslim schools and madrasas around the world today. ‘Tajweed’, meaning ‘beautification’ or ‘elaboration’, is the art of reciting the Koran correctly. It is an important Islamic science developed by scholars to ensure that Muslims read God’s word correctly and get its true meaning. One needs an instructor who teaches Tajweed rules before he starts learning Koranic recitation. Once mastered, it can be beneficial not just in reciting or reading from the Koran but also while speaking Arabic

Together these three parts form one letter in Arabic. For example, the letter Ain looks like this ا , it’s made up of Hamza همزة and Kasa كساء. In order to recite the Qur’an correctly we need to pay attention to Hamzas because they show where we should pause while reciting, but more importantly they indicate when you should change your voice.
